All about InStoWriMo

What is it?

InStoWriMo (Inclusive Stories Writing Month) is a literary event that was born in the fall of NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), an annual challenge traditionally held in November, during which the challengers had to write a book of 50k words starting from 0.

The NaNoWriMo team has positioned itself in favor of AI generators and suffered the liability of a history of grooming (a moderator was accused of these both morally and legally reprehensible practices), the literary community was hoping to see other similar events and we wanted to respond to this call.

InStoWriMo is therefore a biannual challenge, the first edition of which is scheduled for November 2024 and which proposes two modes of participation: the 50k challenge for authors who want to take up the original challenge and a custom challenge, for people who cannot necessarily write nearly 1700 words a day, or who want to work on an some work in progress.

This is why the challenge is inclusive.
Not everyone can write every single day. Some people are still studying and/or working, others have children, others have conditions that constrain them.
We wanted everyone to be able to find a way to participate at their own pace.
This is why there are two challenge modes.

Where is it happening?

On this forum!
To think about our event, we asked several people who participated in NaNoWriMo for their opinion and all of them said they regretted the time when it was happening on a forum, with a retro vibe, and not on Discord where the pollution of the channels prevented them from following the stories and their own challenge, to their liking.

The main place of participation is therefore here.
At the same time, challengers are free to post on any media of their choice; we obviously encourage you to use the hashtag #InStoWriMo either on social networks or on Twitch for people who want to stream during the event.

When does it happen?

The first edition takes place in November 2024, throughout the month, the next will take place in May 2025.

We have chosen two editions per year, again following the feedback we have received.
Many people like the idea of the challenge in November, but are also taken by various constraints such as the resumption of conventions and fairs, or the proximity to Thanksgiving.

By offering two editions and two challenge modes, we hope to bring a viable solution, since it is possible to compete in custom mode in November and in 50k mode in May, for example.

What do we get out of it?

The pleasure of participating and a little visibility.

We would like to offer you more, but it’s a first edition and we are a tiny association, so our resources are very limited.

We will give a digital diploma to all participants at the end of each session, with a different mention depending on whether or not the person has passed their challenge.

And every day, 20 excerpts will be selected and read during the stream of a member of our team, with the pseudonym and relevant links of the author to give some visibility to his writing.

If the situation changed and we had sponsors, we would find a solution to allow you to win prizes.

We can discuss with the challengers who have accepted their challenge of a support to publication.

How do we compete?

You just need to register on the forum and then present yourself in the dedicated section.
You will receive write access in the section corresponding to the challenge mode you are interested in.
Then you will only have to publish after each of your writing sessions.
